Craving the rich and flavorful taste of Chicken Tikka Masala but can't make it to your favourite Indian restaurant? Don't worry, you can recreate this classic dish right in your own kitchen.

Ingredients:

  • For the Chicken Tikka:

    • 1 pound boneless, skinless chicken breasts, cut into 1-inch cubes
    • 1/2 cup plain yogurt
    • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
    • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
    • 1 teaspoon ground coriander
    • 1/2 teaspoon garam masala
    • 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
    • 1/2 teaspoon salt
    • 1/4 teaspoon red chilli powder (adjust to taste)
  • For the Tikka Masala Sauce:

    • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
    • 1 large onion, finely chopped
    • 2 cloves garlic, minced
    • 1-inch piece ginger, grated
    • 1 can (14.5 ounces) diced tomatoes
    • 1 cup heavy cream
    • 1 tablespoon tomato paste
    • 1 teaspoon garam masala
    • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
    • 1/2 teaspoon ground coriander
    • 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
    • 1/2 teaspoon salt
    • 1/4 teaspoon red chilli powder (adjust to taste)
    • 1/4 cup water

Instructions:

  1. Marinate the chicken: In a bowl, combine the yoghurt, lemon juice, cumin, coriander, garam masala, turmeric, salt, and red chilli powder. Add the chicken cubes and toss to coat. Cover and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes, or up to overnight.
  2. Cook the chicken: Preheat your grill or broiler. Thread the marinated chicken cubes onto skewers. Grill or broil until cooked and slightly charred, about 5-7 minutes per side. Remove from the skewers and set aside.
  3. Make the sauce: Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the onion and cook until softened about 5 minutes. Stir in the garlic and ginger, and cook for 1 minute more.
  4. Add the tomatoes: Add the diced tomatoes, heavy cream, tomato paste, garam masala, cumin, coriander, turmeric, salt, and red chilli powder to the skillet. Bring to a simmer and cook for 10-15 minutes, or until the sauce has thickened.
  5. Combine chicken and sauce: Add the cooked chicken tikka to the sauce and simmer for a few minutes to allow the flavours to meld.
  6. Serve: Serve the Chicken Tikka Masala hot with basmati rice or naan bread.

Enjoy your homemade Chicken Tikka Masala!
